World Cup 2026 (Q): Marc Brys justifies the call-up of injured Zambo Anguissa
André-Frank Zambo Anguissa has been called up to the Cameroon national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, despite his injury. This has raised many questions.
On the morning of Thursday, March 13, 2025, coach Marc Brys unveiled the Cameroon squad for the matches against Eswatini and Libya for the 5th and 6th rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Against all expectations, André-Frank Zambo Anguissa is indeed included in the group of 25 Indomitable Lions selected.
On February 23, 2025, during a Serie A match between Napoli and Como, Zambo Anguissa was injured in the calf. This has kept him off the pitch since then. Despite this unavailability, Brys has called upon the 29-year-old midfielder. When questioned about this decision, the coach stated:
"Zambo Anguissa, he has a sore foot but he is sure and convinced that he can play the second match. That's why I took him."
Zambo Anguissa suffers from a muscle injury. The coach of the Indomitable Lions is undoubtedly counting on the player's moral and psychological presence within the group.
