World Cup 2026 (Q): Osimhen leads Nigeria against Rwanda
After a disappointing start to the campaign, Nigeria's Super Eagles secured an important victory against Rwanda (2-0), thanks to a brace from Victor Osimhen. This result rekindles their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
With only three points in four matches, Nigeria was in dire need of a win. Mission accomplished in the first half. Osimhen opened the scoring in the 11th minute, perfectly converting a cross from Ademola Lookman. Just before the break, the Galatasaray forward doubled the lead with a subtle lob after a pass from Samuel Chukwueze.
The second half was managed well by Éric Chelle's men, who maintained their lead while conserving energy. With this victory and Lesotho's defeat, Nigeria climbs to 4th place in Group C. Next challenge: Zimbabwe in four days.
