The Zimbabwe national team is gearing up for the 5th and 6th matchdays of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria. In a recent interview, the Warriors' coach expressed his apprehension about the clash with the Cheetahs.

Zimbabwe currently holds the 6th and last place in the standings in Group C. While Rwanda occupies the top spot and the favored Nigeria sits in 5th place, the Warriors remain optimistic about their chances to climb the rankings and qualify.

"The group is still undecided for any team, it's as simple as that. The team at the top can easily fall. And even if the group were already decided, every team has the responsibility to fight until the last match with the best and maximum effort to ensure a fair competition," explained coach Michael Nees to herald.co.zw.

The German coach recently stated that Zimbabwe has every chance to defeat Nigeria. Despite the Super Eagles' renown in African football, their recent results have been underwhelming, which, of course, boosts the confidence of their opponents. However, the Warriors' coach remains cautious about Benin's Cheetahs, who are 3rd in Group C.

"The next task is a tough match against Benin. Benin has beaten Nigeria. Benin drew with Nigeria. Benin qualified for the AFCON. They also have a very experienced coach, Gernot Rohr, whom I've known for 30 years and who comes from my country. We are close friends, you could say. But friendship will play no role during those 90 minutes and beyond," confided Michael Nees.

Zimbabwe will host Benin on March 21 at Moses Mabhida Stadium in South Africa, before traveling to Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on March 25.
