World Cup 2026 (Q): Zimbabwe holds Nigeria to a draw, again!

Nigeria stumbled against Zimbabwe this Tuesday, March 25, at home. The Super Eagles shared the points with the Warriors with a 1-1 draw. This setback further weakens Nigeria's position in Group C and benefits South Africa, who strengthen their lead at the top of the standings.

Nigeria hosted Zimbabwe tonight at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo as part of the 6th matchday of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Having defeated Rwanda (2-0) on March 21, Eric Chelle's men needed a win against the Warriors to climb to second place in the standings and boost their campaign. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.

In front of their fans in Uyo, the Nigerians opened the scoring thanks to their star striker, Victor Osimhen, in the 74th minute. Against all odds, the Zimbabwean Warriors responded late in the match with a brilliant equalizer from Tawanda Chirewa in the 90th minute, denying Nigeria a crucial victory.

With this draw, Nigeria remains in 3rd place in Group C with 8 points from six matches. The Warriors, meanwhile, are at the 6th and last place with 4 points.
