World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Black Stars squad announced without Ayew but with a major return

Ghana's head coach, Otto Addo, unveiled his squad list this Friday for the 5th and 6th rounds of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers. The 49-year-old coach made some bold choices. Indeed, he left André Ayew, one of the veteran figures of the Ghanaian team, out in the cold. Despite his good form with Le Havre, the 35-year-old didn't earn the coach's trust. In contrast, his brother, Jordan Ayew, is among those selected for this brief adventure in March 2025.

In Otto Addo's list, the significant return of Thomas Partey is noteworthy. The Arsenal midfielder was absent from the November 2024 gathering due to injury. Placed in Group I, Ghana holds the second spot with nine points, tied with Comoros but with a lower goal difference. It should be noted that the Black Stars will face Chad on March 21st for the 5th round and Madagascar on March 24th for the 6th round.
