World Cup 2026 Qualifiers: Mozambique to Host Uganda in Cairo
The national team of Mozambique is set to host Uganda as part of the 5th matchday of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The match, originally scheduled in Maputo, has now been relocated to Egyptian soil.
In an official statement released this Friday, March 7, 2025, the Mozambican Football Federation announced the change of venue for the Mozambique vs Uganda clash. "The match will therefore take place on March 20th at 3:00 PM, in the iconic Cairo International Stadium," wrote the FMF.
According to the Mozambican federation, this decision was made "due to the non-approval of the National Stadium do Zimpeto (ENZ) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the tight deadline set to designate an alternative venue." The choice of the Cairo International Stadium was made considering various strategic factors, such as logistics and air connections that facilitate the travel of players based in Europe.
Additionally, it should be noted that Mozambique will travel to the Stade Hocine-Aït-Ahmed on March 25 to face Algeria's Fennecs for the 6th matchday of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The proximity of this match is also one of the reasons that prompted the FMF to contact the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
