World Cup 2026 - Senegal: Edouard Mendy to miss clash against Belgium?
Senegal are expected to face Belgium in the round of 16 of the World Cup without their first-choice goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.
According to Senegalese outlet Wiwsport, confirming the news previously reported by RTS, the national broadcaster, Al-Ahli’s shot-stopper left the Lions of Teranga’s training camp on Saturday, June 27. Edouard Mendy has traveled to Jeddah for further tests on his knee.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper will miss Wednesday’s showdown against Belgium in the World Cup 2026 round of 16. Even if the Lions advance, his availability for the next stages remains highly doubtful, according to the same sources.
Edouard Mendy was forced off injured in the 63rd minute against Norway (2-3 defeat), and he was also absent against Iraq, where the Lions cruised to a 5-0 victory to secure their spot in the round of 16.
