Speaking on his podcast Kroos & Kroos: die WM unter der Lupe, the former midfielder was critical of the side’s ability to produce decisive performances.
“Right now, we don't have a single world‑class player,” Kroos said. “We don't have a single one of those players; we need to be honest about that.”
He contrasted the current generation with past teams, noting that while there are promising individuals, they have not yet reached the level required to influence games at the tournament’s sharp end.
“This team simply can't do that anymore. We just think we're better than Paraguay and will somehow win,” he added.
Kroos’ comments reflect a growing frustration with Germany’s decline on the international stage, and serve as a reminder that potential alone is not enough. With the squad now heading home, the debate over the state of German football will only intensify.
