Youssef Msakni’s return to Espérance? Bennour puts an end to speculation!

Rumors have been swirling in recent days about a possible return of Tunisian international Youssef Msakni to his former club, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, following the circulation of photos showing him alongside the club’s “blood and gold” executives.

In response, Riadh Bennour, head of Espérance’s football section, stepped in to set the record straight and put an end to speculation about a potential Msakni signing ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Speaking after Espérance’s 1-0 win over Stade Tunisien in the Tunisian Cup final on Sunday at the Hamadi Agrebi Stadium in Radès, Bennour made it clear that the club has no intention of signing players solely for the Club World Cup, arguing that such a move would be unfair to the current squad.

“We’re not going to sign players just for three matches. That’s not Espérance’s culture. We won’t change the team’s reality in such a short time,” he declared.

He added, in a firm tone: “Do you think we’ll beat Chelsea thanks to players recruited just for the Club World Cup? Will new signings really transform the squad in three matches? Of course not.”

As a reminder, the draw for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, in its new format, has placed Espérance in Group D alongside Flamengo (Brazil), Chelsea (England), and Los Angeles FC (USA).
