🔴 2025 Club World Cup: FIFA announces Club Leon's replacement!

FIFA has finally put an end to the speculation regarding Club León's replacement for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Contrary to rumors suggesting a possible recall for FC Barcelona, the global football governing body has opted for a different solution: a playoff match will see Los Angeles FC face off against Club America to determine who will take the Mexican club's place.

It was Gianni Infantino himself who made the announcement this Tuesday, April 15. The FIFA president confirmed that this match will be held pending the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where Club León has contested its exclusion.

To recap, the Mexican club was removed from the tournament due to non-compliance with multi-ownership rules.

"We are awaiting the final decision from the CAS in the coming weeks and will fully comply with it," Infantino stated at a press conference.

Infantino: “Transparency and fairness”

In the meantime, FIFA plans to pit the unfortunate finalist of the CONCACAF Champions League, Los Angeles FC—home to Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud—against Club America, another deserving contender according to regional rankings.

"If the Appeals Committee's decision is confirmed, we will organize a playoff between LAFC and Club America to fill the vacant spot," Infantino specified, emphasizing FIFA's commitment to transparency and fairness in this matter.
