2024 Women's AFCON: Nigeria squad announced with Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie
The Nigerian women's national team unveiled on Friday, June 20, the squad of 24 players selected for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Justine Madugu has assembled a balanced mix of international stars such as Asisat Oshoala and promising local talents.
Nigeria, in pursuit of a twelfth continental crown, has released a squad brimming with skill and experience. Star striker Asisat Oshoala, a six-time African Ballon d'Or winner, returns after missing the last match against Cameroon. Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, recently crowned Africa's best goalkeeper for the second consecutive year, also features in Justine Madugu's squad.
Alongside them are defensive pillars like Ashleigh Plumptre (Al-Ittihad), Michelle Alozie (Houston Dash), and Osinachi Ohale (Pachuca). Rachael Unachukwu, Sikiratu Isah, and Miracle Usani, three players from the domestic league's Nasarawa Amazons and Edo Queens, earn their first national team call-up for the tournament.
Preparations kick off today in Abuja, with two friendly matches scheduled: against Portugal in Lisbon on June 23 and Ghana in Rabat on June 29. Then it's off to Morocco for the AFCON, which runs from July 5 to 26.
