An emotional return to the scoresheet
Messi found the back of the net in the 26th minute scoring his team's second goal of the match. The strike marked a poignant moment for the Argentine star, being his first goal since the passing of his father on 8 August.
Understandably, the 39 year old displayed little joy in the aftermath of the goal opting for a notably subdued and reflective reaction rather than his traditional celebrations.
Inter Miami's winless streak continues
Despite the emotional milestone for their captain, Inter Miami failed to secure all 3 points extending a difficult run of form. Head coach Guillermo Hoyos openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the final 2-2 scoreline as the Florida based outfit remain winless in their last four Major League Soccer outings.
Golden Boot race update
On an individual level, the goal brings Messi's MLS tally to 13 for the campaign. The Argentine icon now sits alone in second place in the league's Golden Boot standings, trailing FC Dallas striker Petar Musa who currently leads the pack with a three goal advantage (16 goals).
