Al Ahly Exit Club World Cup in Disappointment... And El Shenawy Apologizes

Following Al Ahly’s early exit from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy delivered heartfelt apology to fans vowing to spark "new era" despite the setback.

Al Ahly Fail to Win Single Match

The Egyptian giants crashed out in the group stage after thrilling 4 - 4 draw with FC Porto on Tuesday. Despite the offensive fireworks, Al Ahly finished bottom of Group A with just 2 point from 3 game.

El Shenawy conceded 6 goal in 2 matches drawing heavy criticism from fans especially after the defensive lapses seen against Porto.

A Message from the Captain

Taking to Instagram, El Shenawy posted emotional statement:

"We’re sorry. We wanted to make you proud with victory today. You deserve better from us"

He continued:

"Al Ahly fans have always been our strength in every game, in every moment. This's more than just football it’s lifelong bond, one heart, one spirit, one goal"

"This's not the end"

The 35 year old shot stopper who wore the captain’s armband throughout the tournament, assured supporters that the team’s mission isn’t over:

"This's not the end but the start of new chapter. God willing, we’ll fight to bring joy back to your hearts and lift the Eagle of Al Ahly high again"

Al Ahly now shift their focus to the domestic league & CAF Champions league where they'll look to redeem themselves after disappointing international campaign.
