At 36, Islam Slimani still dreams of the Greens!

More than 15 months have passed since Islam Slimani's last appearance in the Fennecs jersey, when he came on against Mauritania, during the third and final day of the group stage of the 2023 AFCON.

Since that match, and following Djamel Belmadi's departure as coach, Slimani has completely disappeared from the Greens' roster. Swiss coach Vladimir Petković has not placed his trust in him, not calling him up since taking charge.

Slimani confirms his desire to return to the national team!

In a recent interview with the Belgian magazine "DH Les Sports+", the current KVC Westerlo (Belgium) forward expressed his willingness to return to the Algerian team. He reaffirmed his desire to once again participate in continental and international competitions with the Fennecs.

When asked if he was considering international retirement, Slimani responded categorically:
"Not at all. Why should I stop?"

He added: "You need to have goals in life. I will continue to believe in my ability to return to the team as long as I am able to play."

It is noteworthy that Islam Slimani is the top scorer in Algerian national team history, with a total of 47 goals, according to Transfermarkt. He leads Abdelhafid Tasfaout, who is in second place with 36 goals, by 11 goals.
