Benfica Stun Bayern to Top Group at Club World Cup 2025

Benfica shocked Bayern Munich with 1 - 0 victory on Tuesday 24 June clinching top spot in Group C of the 2025 fifa Club World cup, held in the US.

Historic Victory

Norwegian midfielder Andreas Schjelderup struck the decisive goal in the 13 minute sealing Benfica’s first ever win over Bayern in official competition.

The result ends long standing hoodoo and puts Benfica in the Round of 16 as group leaders with 7 point from 3 games. Bayern despite the loss, also advanced as runners up with 6 point.

Weather Halts Other Group Match

Meanwhile the other Group C fixture between Boca Juniors & Auckland City was interrupted due to severe weather conditions. The match was paused with the score tied at 1 - 1 and is yet to be concluded.

Even if Boca wins the resumed game, they would finish with 4 point which isn't enough to qualify for the knockout stages. The Argentine club'd earlier drawn 2 - 2 with Benfica and lost 2 - 1 to Bayern confirming their elimination from the group stage.

With this landmark win Benfica send message to rivals as they head into the knockout phase on high. Bayern on the other hand, must regroup quickly before their Round of 16 clash with Flamengo on 29 Jun.
