Cameroon: New kits for AFCON 2025 spark division
Cameroun

In Cameroon, the new kits for AFCON 2025 are far from unanimous.

This Friday saw the official unveiling of Cameroon's new kits for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations—a moment that quickly set off a wave of ridicule and criticism across social media. Unveiled in the presence of Samuel Eto'o, president of FECAFOOT, and legendary striker Roger Milla, these new outfits, designed by kit supplier Fourteen, were highly anticipated.

Three kits were revealed for the tournament: a classic green home shirt, a lighter away version, and a third alternative jersey. It was the dark green of this third kit, modeled by Samuel Eto'o himself, that truly caught fans off guard—even shocking some. The unusual shade stands in stark contrast to the iconic vibrant green traditionally associated with the Indomitable Lions.

For many, this design choice is a radical departure from Cameroon's traditional visual identity. It only took minutes for the first reactions to pour in. On X, one comment quickly went viral: "It's awful, are we going to a carnival or playing in AFCON?" Another, even more widely shared, summed up the general mood: "Have we become Mali now?"
