CAN 1976: did Morocco walk off the pitch against Guinea?
The Guinean Football Federation categorically denies the rumors circulating on social media: Morocco never withdrew from the match against Guinea at the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations.
The match on March 14, 1976, in Addis Ababa ended in a 1-1 draw. Cherif Souleymane opened the scoring for Guinea, before Ahmed Makrouh equalized late in the game. Morocco then finished at the top of the final group and was crowned African champion, with Guinea taking second place.
Former international Ismael Sylla also confirmed that the match was played normally, with no incidents or interruptions. The federation now urges everyone to rely only on trustworthy sources and warns against misleading information that could cause confusion. Furthermore, Guinea did not file any complaint with the international sports tribunal or CAF.
