CAN Féminine 2024: Desiree Ellis unveils the Banyana Banyana squad
Banyana Banyana - Afrique du Sud

On the morning of Monday, June 23, Desiree Ellis announced her squad for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations. The South African coach has called up a total of 26 Banyana Banyana players to defend their title in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.

Under the guidance of Desiree Ellis, the reigning African champions are aiming for a second consecutive continental crown. The Banyana Banyana began their preparations early this year with a series of friendly matches against nations like Lesotho (1-0, 2-0), Malawi (3-0, 2-1), Botswana (3-2), and Zambia (2-0), fine-tuning their tactical organization and team cohesion.

Following these training camps and matches, the Banyana Banyana coach has selected a 26-player squad, instead of the 21 announced back on June 20. This roster features numerous local talents from clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, The University of the Western Cape, University FC, and University of Johannesburg. Also included are several South Africans plying their trade in Europe and the Americas, like Linda Motlhalo of Glasgow City in Scotland and the experienced Jermaine Seoposenwe of CF Monterrey in Mexico.
