Champions League: Bayern confirms against Leverkusen
Bayern Munich confirmed their superiority over Bayer Leverkusen by winning 2-0 away, thus securing their qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals with an aggregate score of 5-0. Without Florian Wirtz, who was injured, Xabi Alonso's team never seemed capable of overturning the situation.
Right from the start of the match, the Bavarians were pragmatic. They did not seek to dominate overwhelmingly but knew when to strike. In the 52nd minute, Harry Kane opened the scoring with a precise cross from Joshua Kimmich. Poorly positioned, the local defense allowed the Englishman to notch his 32nd goal of the season, his 10th in the Champions League.
Leverkusen, lacking offensive inspiration, waited until the 65th minute to get their first shot on target. In the meantime, Bayern sealed the match: from another set-piece, Alphonso Davies finished a collective move initiated by Gnabry and Kane.
Bayern continues their quest for a seventh European title and will face Inter in the quarter-finals. For Leverkusen, this elimination marks the end of a disappointing European campaign.
