Clinton Njie and Rapid Bucharest, separation confirmed
Rapid Bucharest and Clinton Njie have mutually agreed to terminate their contract, which was initially set to run until June 2026. The Cameroonian forward, who arrived in September 2024, was unable to make a significant impact in Bucharest.
Signed last summer as a free agent after his spell at Sivasspor, Clinton Njie was expected to bring pace and experience to FC Rapid. It was also a chance for the player to revive his career. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. The 31-year-old striker featured in just 12 matches across all competitions, scoring only two goals. His last appearance dates back to April 6, 2025, on Matchday 3 of the Romanian SuperLiga against SC Dinamo, where he came off the bench for 20 minutes. An insufficient return for a player brought in to energize the attacking line.
Off the pitch, Clinton Njie is also facing tough times. Haunted by a legal case from his days at Olympique de Marseille, he was ordered by the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal to repay €66,000 to a leasing company after stopping payments on a Bentley acquired in 2017.
This latest off-field incident only adds to an already challenging professional period. Now a free agent, Njie once again finds himself on the transfer market, but his sporting prospects appear increasingly limited.
