Club World Cup: Jose Riveiro full of praise for Palmeiras

Before the highly anticipated clash against Palmeiras on June 19, Al Ahly coach Jose Riveiro knows exactly what to expect: a tactical battle against an ambitious Brazilian side.

After a goalless draw with Inter Miami on the opening day, the Egyptians absolutely must win to keep their hopes alive for the round of 16. "We have to fight with everything we have to get a good result," declared the Spanish manager. Palmeiras, who were also held to a draw (0-0 against FC Porto), remain a formidable opponent—"one of the best in the tournament," according to Riveiro.

Jose Riveiro points out a rare stability within the Brazilian squad:

Abel Ferreira and his team have been working together for over 300 matches. This cohesion allows them to adapt to any situation. Their match against Porto was proof of that. It was a tactical masterclass.

Aggressive defense, relentless pressing, lightning-fast transitions, a dominant midfield—Riveiro is unstinting in his praise for the Brazilian club:

They are a courageous, extremely quick team with an exceptional midfield. They impress in every area of the pitch.

Al Ahly will have to step up, but the coach believes in his men. A win would put them in a perfect position. But to do that, they’ll have to topple a side that, on paper, looks every inch a serious contender.
