Club World Cup: PSG fall to Botafogo

Thunderbolt in the United States. Paris Saint-Germain, the newly crowned European champions, were defeated 1-0 by Botafogo in the second matchday of the Club World Cup group stage.

Driven by a united defense and steely mentality, the Brazilian side delivered a heroic performance. Just 26% possession, but ruthless tactical efficiency. A goal from Igor Jesus in the 37th minute was all it took to bring the Parisians to their knees.

On the other side, PSG kept piling on the attempts: Kvaratskhelia, Ramos, Barcola... but nothing worked. Goalkeeper John was in imperial form, frustrating the French attackers at every turn. With this victory, Botafogo moves alone atop the group with six points. PSG, who started the tournament with a win over Atlético de Madrid, will now need a must-win result in their final match to keep their hopes alive for a spot in the round of 16.
