Congo: Claude Le Roy officially returns as head coach of the Red Devils
The Red Devils have a new leader at the helm. French tactician Claude Le Roy has been officially appointed as head coach of Congo’s senior national team.
Claude Le Roy is back in charge of Congo’s Red Devils, returning with the mission to rejuvenate a national team searching for both stability and results. He will be supported by Senegalese coach Omar Daf, who has been named assistant manager.
Official signing set for June 22
According to a statement from the Ministry of Sports, the contract signing ceremony will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Brazzaville, in the presence of sports authorities and the Congolese Football Federation. The agreement commits both the Congolese state and the two coaches to leading the national team.
This official announcement marks Claude Le Roy’s return to the helm of Congo—a team he already knows well, having managed them in the past.
A project focused on rebuilding
Congo’s sports authorities have made their ambitions clear: to rebuild a competitive team, strengthen the technical staff, and promote local talent. The top priority is qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, seen as a crucial milestone for the project.
Claude Le Roy, 78, a seasoned figure in African football, returns to service in a period of transition. With Omar Daf at his side, the technical staff is tasked with injecting new energy into the Red Devils, blending discipline, performance, and sustainable rebuilding.
