Daniel Sosah to Aktobe: profile analysis by his former coach
Interview
Daniel Sosah is now officially an Aktobe player. At 26, the Niger international striker—whose journey has taken him through Maccabi Netanya (Israel), Isloch (Belarus), and most recently Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine—is preparing to make his debut in the Kazakhstan Premier Liga.
With his arrival set for July 1, 2025, Sports24.kz caught up with Yuriy Vernydub, his former coach in Ukraine. The coach, who managed Daniel Sosah for two seasons in the Ukrainian Premier Liga, offers a nuanced yet overall positive assessment of the player:
Daniel is above all a remarkable person. Although he represents Niger, he was born in Ghana. He speaks perfect English and, as proof of his integration, learned both Ukrainian and Russian in just two years. He's a very disciplined player, attentive, and quick to understand instructions.
On the pitch, Yuriy Vernydub describes Daniel Sosah as a robust and determined striker:
When he arrived, I often played him out wide, where his pace and commitment made a real difference. Over time, I moved him to the center forward role, where his physical presence is a real asset in holding up the ball and fending off opposing defenders.
However, his former coach does point out the Nigerien striker’s main weakness: finishing.
He creates plenty of chances, but his ability to convert them into goals still needs work. That remains an area to improve for a striker at the top level.
During his spell with Ukrainian side Kryvbas, Daniel Sosah scored 13 goals in 51 matches. These stats show a certain consistency, but also suggest plenty of room for further development. His move to Aktobe is a calculated gamble on an experienced player, capable of bringing significant physical impact and boosting the team’s attacking threat.
