Egypt's opponent: Belgium hit five past USA in dominant World Cup warm-up win
Belgium defeated the United States 5-2 in international friendly on Saturday 28 March 2026 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta as both teams prepared for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
USA take early lead before Belgium respond
The match started with the home side showing intent as the United States opened the scoring through Weston McKennie in the 39th minute of first half.
The goal gave the hosts a deserved advantage after a competitive opening period.
However Belgium reacted quickly before the break. Defender Zeno Debast found the equalizer in the 45 minute restoring balance just before half-time and shifting momentum toward the visitors.
Second-half dominance seals the win
Belgium returned from the break with greater intensity and control. Midfielder Amadou Onana put his side ahead in the 53 minute before Charles De Ketelaere extended the lead from the penalty spot in the 59 minute.
The Red Devils continued to press forward, with Dodi Lukebakio scoring the fourth goal in the 68 minute. He later completed his brace and Belgium’s fifth goal in the 82 minute capping off a dominant attacking display.
The United States managed to reduce the deficit late on, with Patrick Agyemang scoring in the 87 minute but it was not enough to challenge Belgium’s control of the game.
World Cup preparations intensify
Both teams used the match as part of their preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Belgium have been drawn in Group G alongside Egypt, Iran and New Zealand while the United States will compete in Group D with Paraguay, Australia and the winner of the European play-off between Turkey & Kosovo.
Belgium will continue their preparations with another friendly against Mexico in the early hours of Wednesday 1 April 2026.
