On an evening that appeared destined to be remembered for a lopsided scoreline, attention shifted from the numbers on the board to a heated moment between the Super Eagles' attacking duo. In the AFCON 2025 Round of 16 clash in Fez, the Nigerian team crushed Mozambique with a clean 4-0 victory, but a 64th-minute clash between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman stole the spotlight.

Osimhen scored twice, one of which was assisted by Lookman, who also added a goal of his own, bringing both players' tournament tally to three goals, while Lookman leads the assists chart with four decisive passes. Coach Eric Chéillé refused to delve into the incident, stating firmly: "What happened on the pitch will remain within the group. That is my private matter, and everything that happens within the team stays within the team... We will see later, and we will talk."

For his part, Ademola Lookman avoided direct comment, noting: "I don’t think that’s really important; the team won 4-0... He is our main man, everyone knows this—a top striker, a top-class player."

Away from the spotlight, Chéillé maintained his realistic approach, emphasizing: "We did nothing extraordinary; we merely won one game. If we aim to be ambitious, we need to continue improving and maintain this quality on the pitch."
