Sahid N’Gobi is experiencing a phenomenal season in the colors of ASPAC FC. The young striker currently leads the Benin Ligue 1 scoring charts with 10 goals in 19 matches. He’s been a driving force behind his team’s impressive run, with ASPAC currently sitting 5th in the standings. A product of the Hope Football Academy in Kandi, this precocious talent has drawn strength from his roots and a steely mindset to rise through the ranks. In this exclusive interview, he opens up about his journey and ambitions without holding back.

Sahid, you’re only 20 but already one of the key players in ASPAC’s strong campaign. Can you tell us about your beginnings in football? Where did you start, and what sparked your desire to turn pro?

"I started playing football at the Hope Football Academy in Kandi, a modest but formative environment. I was born and raised in Kandi, a city passionate about football. That environment made me believe in a development path that could lead me to professionalism."

With 10 goals in 17 matches, you’ve had a stunning start to the season and are among the top scorers in Ligue 1. How are you handling this success?

"I’m enjoying it a lot, but I’m also driven to do even more. Every weekend, my first thought is to help the team win. My goal is to stay consistent and keep making a difference."

What has changed most in your game or your preparation this season to make you so effective?

"The biggest change has been my mindset: more focus, greater self-confidence, and a much stronger mentality."

Currently 5th in the league with ASPAC, what are the team’s ambitions for the rest of the season?

"Our main ambition is to finish in the top 2 so we can represent Benin on the African stage next season. That’s our shared goal."

Is there a Beninese or international player who inspires your style of play?

"Yes, in the national team, I really admire Andréas Hountondji. Internationally, the player who inspires me most is Kylian Mbappé."

Are you attracting interest from clubs abroad?

"When you perform, it never goes unnoticed. There’s definitely interest from some clubs, but for me, the most important thing is to keep working hard and stay consistent."

What’s your favorite club?

"My favorite club is Arsenal FC."

At just 20, how do you handle the pressure and expectations around you?

"There’s pressure every weekend, especially when people expect a lot from you. But I’m lucky to be part of a group that helps me stay grounded, remain humble, and put my talent at the service of the team."

Beyond statistics, what is your main objective this season?

"For a striker, the goal is always to be decisive. The more decisive I am, the more doors will open for me to new and greater challenges. That’s my roadmap."

As a young player making an impact, how do you view the level of Benin’s Ligue 1?

"It’s a very competitive and consistent league. I honestly think it can serve as a springboard for any player, young or experienced, as long as you perform well and get noticed."

Many supporters are wondering: with such talent, do you dream of joining the Benin national team soon?

"Playing for the national team is every Beninese footballer’s dream. I set myself clear goals, I work hard to achieve them, and I believe that one day, Inshallah, I’ll proudly wear the colors of the Benin national team."

Finally, what message would you like to send to ASPAC supporters and everyone following your journey?

"I want to say a huge thank you to all ASPAC FC fans and all football lovers who support me, near or far. May God grant us health and the strength to share together our best football moments."

And could you describe, in a few words, the player you hope to become in the next five years?

"In five years, I see myself as someone who is a good person, plays with heart, and has managed to remain consistent over time. A player you can count on, both on and off the pitch."
