Franc Artiga takes the helm at Petro de Luanda, Flávio Amado joins the staff
Petro de Luanda has appointed Franc Artiga as the new head coach of its first team on June 23, 2025. The Spanish tactician arrives from FC Khimki in Russia, bringing his wealth of experience to the reigning Girabola champions in Angola.
Just a few weeks after entrusting the first team to Flávio Amado, Petro de Luanda has opted for a new head coach. Franc Artiga, a product of La Masia and former coach of Barcelona's Youth, U16, U18, and U19 squads (2015 to 2021), now takes charge of the most decorated club in Angolan football after gaining further experience in the United Arab Emirates and Russia. The 48-year-old takes over with a wealth of European pedigree.
"He joins Eixo Viário with the aim of keeping Petro at the top of national football and improving their performance in continental competitions," the Angolan club announced.
As for Flávio Amado, he steps aside after leading Petro de Luanda to their 12th league title in club history and a fourth consecutive championship at the end of the 2024/25 season. The former Palancas Negras striker and Petro de Luanda legend will remain on the capital club's technical staff.
