It’s now official: Olympique Lyonnais prodigy Rayan Cherki will not represent Algeria on the international stage.

Eligible to wear the jerseys of the “Bleus,” the “Squadra Azzurra,” and the “Fennecs,” the 21-year-old has been one of the standout attractions of the 2024-2025 Ligue 1 season.

His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed by France’s head coach Didier Deschamps, who has called him up for the Final Four of the Nations League.

As a reminder, the French national team will take on Spain on June 5 in the Nations League semi-finals.

This is a major disappointment for Algerian fans, who had hoped to see him with the national team at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In 44 appearances for Olympique Lyonnais, Cherki featured in every match, notching up 12 goals and providing 20 assists.
