France: the nature of Kylian Mbappé’s injury revealed
Kylian Mbappé is suffering from a tendon injury in his left knee. The French forward, who was injured after scoring the winning goal against Turkey (1-0), is leaving the France camp and will not take part in the upcoming Nations League matches.
The evening had nevertheless begun well for the captain of the France team. Starting in Zinédine Zidane’s first match in charge of Les Bleus, Mbappé scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute, from a pass by Michael Olise. Immediately after scoring, he felt pain in his left knee.
The Real Madrid player initially tried to continue the match. The persistent pain eventually forced him to leave the pitch, with Désiré Doué coming on in his place. Tests subsequently revealed a tendon injury in his left knee.

Mbappé ruled out for Les Bleus
This injury brings Mbappé’s time with the France team to an end. Head coach Zinédine Zidane will therefore have to do without his captain for the remainder of this international window. Les Bleus still have to face Belgium on September 28, then Italy on October 2 and Belgium again on October 5.
This new injury comes a few months after a previous problem with the same knee. In March 2026, Real Madrid announced that Mbappé was suffering from a sprained left knee. That injury, sustained in late December 2025, kept him out for several weeks.
For now, no precise recovery timeline has been communicated for this new injury. Its progression will determine when Mbappé can return to the pitch with Real Madrid.
