Friendly: Super Falcons claim victory over Black Queens
Ghana 1-3 Nigeria

Nigeria's Super Falcons defeated Ghana's Black Queens 3-1 in a friendly on June 29, 2025. This warm-up clash, staged ahead of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, injects confidence into the Nigerian camp before the tournament kicks off.

The Nigerian squad snapped Ghana's unbeaten streak as both teams ramped up preparations for the 2024 Women's AFCON, scheduled for July 5-26, 2025. After beating Malawi (3-1) and Benin (4-2), the Black Queens finally bowed to the Super Falcons, eleven-time African champions.

Super Falcons strike early with clinical edge

In the 34th minute, Chiwendu Ihezuo broke the deadlock for Nigeria, before Asisat Oshoala doubled the lead from the penalty spot right before halftime. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade finished the job just after the restart, sealing a commanding 3-0 advantage in the 50th minute.

Late response from the Black Queens

Ghana tried to mount a comeback, but Alice Kusi's 88th-minute goal was too little, too late to alter the outcome. The Black Queens wrap up their preparations with 2 wins from 3 matchesโ€”a disappointing ending, but the Ghanaian squad remains upbeat heading into the tournament.

As for Nigeria, this result reinforces the Super Falcons' ambition to claim a twelfth continental title. Coach Madugu used this high-stakes test to fine-tune his tactical setup and assess his squad's cohesion, which already looked solid following a goalless draw against Portugal (0-0).
