Back in the starting lineup after several weeks sidelined by injury, Azzedine Ounahi seized his opportunity in style. The Moroccan midfielder contributed to Girona's emphatic 3-0 victory over Athletic Club by netting his team's second goal.

Azzedine Ounahi made a triumphant return to Girona's starting eleven. The midfielder delivered a rock-solid performance at the heart of the Catalan midfield for his first start since recovering from injury. It was Ounahi who gave Girona breathing room by scoring the crucial 2-0 goal, further sealing the outcome of a match largely controlled by his side.

This start marks a real turning point for the Moroccan international, who hadn't started a game since the end of the Africa Cup of Nations. After the continental tournament, Ounahi was hampered by injury.

A gradual return before the starting spot

He made his comeback on February 23rd during the 2-2 draw against Deportivo Alavés, and had to settle for substitute appearances in the following matches against Celta de Vigo (1-2 loss) and Levante UD (1-1). Against Bilbao, Girona's coach finally put his trust in him from the outset. That bet quickly paid off, as the number 8 was both influential in the build-up and decisive in the box.

Athletic Bilbao, his favorite victim

With this goal, Ounahi now has four goals this season, along with two assists.

It's worth noting that the Moroccan midfielder seems particularly inspired against the Basque club. This was his second goal against Athletic this season, following the one he scored in the reverse fixture on September 23, 2025, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

A performance that could signal Ounahi's true return to form for Girona's final sprint of the season.
