Côte d'Ivoire has one foot in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Women's AFCON. At halftime at Medina Stadium, the Elephants are up 2-0 against South Africa, displaying total dominance.

Côte d'Ivoire heading for the quarters?

As early as the 18th minute, Grâce-Ruth Sery broke the deadlock with a sharp strike that caught the South African defense off guard. Twenty minutes later, in the 36th minute, the same Grâce-Ruth Sery doubled the lead, stunning the reigning champions.

Sharp in attack and solid at the back, the Ivorians dominated the first half. With this scoreline and their opening 4-1 victory over Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire are now just 45 minutes away from a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Women's AFCON in Morocco.

South Africa on the brink of elimination

On the other hand, South Africa is in turmoil. Beaten 2-1 by Tanzania in their opener, Banyana Banyana now find themselves with their backs against the wall. With two defeats, they are almost out of the tournament. They'll need an immediate response in the second half to have any hope of turning things around.

With this provisional result, Côte d'Ivoire takes sole command of Group B and moves ever closer to qualification. For South Africa, it's now a fight for survival in this AFCON.
