Houssem Aouar sends a strong message to Petkovic!

Long criticized at Al-Ittihad, Houssem Aouar is experiencing a true resurgence. Despite transfer rumors swirling this summer, the Algerian international stayed in Saudi Arabia and has now proven he still belongs among the elite. Delivering a top-class performance against Iraqi side Al-Shorta, the former Roma midfielder was named in the Team of the Week for Matchday 3 of the AFC Champions League, confirming his return to top form.

Aouar, the playmaker

Aouar established himself as a true metronome, blending technical precision with impressive work rate. His vision and ability to break the lines were praised by the Saudi press, which highlighted his steady rise since Laurent Blanc's departure. This return to form couldn't come at a better time, with just weeks to go before Algeria's next squad gathering.

After missing the previous camp due to injury, Aouar is expected to feature in Vladimir Petkovic's upcoming list for November's two friendlies, against Zimbabwe and likely Saudi Arabia. With less than two months to go before the kickoff of AFCON 2025 in Morocco, the Greens' coach can finally count on a revitalized, sharper-than-ever Aouar, ready to reclaim his central role in Algeria's midfield.
