Incredible: OL relegated to Ligue 2
This is news nobody truly thought possible. And yet, it has happened. Olympique Lyonnais has been officially relegated to Ligue 2. Not due to poor sporting results, but for financial reasons.
The DNCG, the financial watchdog of French football, has made its decision. Despite numerous attempts by owner John Textor to steady the ship—selling his stake in Crystal Palace, letting go of the women's team, injecting fresh capital—nothing could prevent the sanction. On Tuesday, June 24, the unthinkable became reality: the club is sent down to the second tier of French football.
This is an earthquake. A heavy blow for the players, the staff, and the supporters. Above all, it is a deep wound in the history of a legendary French football club. Olympique Lyonnais can, however, appeal this decision. To be continued!
