Manchester City set to make another move for Mathis Albert
Manchester City have reportedly not given up on Mathis Albert. According to GOAL, citing sources close to the matter, the English club contacted Borussia Dortmund during the last summer transfer window in an attempt to sign the 17-year-old winger.
City have already shown interest
Only 17 years old, Mathis Albert is regarded as one of Dortmund’s promising young players. Quick and comfortable in duels, he mainly plays on the wings and has already had the opportunity to make his first-team debut. According to GOAL, Manchester City showed concrete interest last summer. However, the German club reportedly did not follow up on the approaches for its young player.
According to Bild, several European clubs value the player at a fee of up to €15 million. That interest could revive the matter during the winter transfer window.
Dortmund want to remain in control of his future
An American international, Albert also holds German nationality. He recently made his debut for the United States and is continuing his development at Borussia Dortmund. His contract with the German club runs until June 2027, according to Transfermarkt.
This deadline could make his future particularly interesting if no contract extension is agreed in the coming months. Dortmund will therefore have to strike a balance between maximising the value of their young talent and their desire to keep him in order to continue his development.
Our analysis
At 17, playing time and continuity in his development will be essential for the next stage of his career. Dortmund could prioritise an extension to secure his future rather than a quick sale. If City decide to make another move, the next contract discussions could therefore play a decisive role in this matter. For now, the English club is being presented as a serious contender, but no completed negotiations have been announced.
