Manchester United: Éderson transfer turns into fiasco

On the verge of joining Manchester United, Éderson saw his transfer collapse during the medical, sealing his future in Bergamo once and for all.

Éderson was set to become Manchester United's first summer signing. The Red Devils had reached an agreement with Atalanta for around €40.5 million, with potential bonuses on top. The Brazilian had also agreed to personal terms on a contract until 2030. However, according to The Guardian, everything fell apart during the medical examination.

Medical tests reportedly revealed an issue with the 27-year-old midfielder’s right knee, prompting the English club to halt the deal. Manchester United then considered returning with a revised offer and renegotiated financial terms, according to Sky Sports. However, Atalanta and the player decided to take a different path.

The turnaround is now complete. “The 27-year-old midfielder has extended his contract with Atalanta,” the club officially announced, without specifying the duration. This new deal is set to run until June 2031. After coming so close to Old Trafford, Éderson is now committed to a long-term future in Bergamo.
