Chelsea endured a tough night, suffering a 3-1 defeat to Flamengo in their second outing at this Club World Cup. One of the main talking points of the match was the sending off of Nicolas Jackson, who came on in the 70th minute only to receive a straight red card for a dangerous foul on Ayrton Lucas.

This is the Senegalese striker’s second red card in four matches, having already been sent off recently against Newcastle. Aware of the seriousness of the situation, Jackson responded on Instagram:

I want to apologize. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and the fans. I let you down. It wasn’t intentional, just a poorly controlled football moment.

Coach Enzo Maresca confirmed the sanction: "He will be out for at least one match. This kind of behavior does not help us." The Italian manager, however, denied any connection between Jackson's lack of discipline and the arrival of young striker Liam Delap.

Defender Marc Cucurella also weighed in: "He’s upset. These are youthful mistakes. He needs to learn." Chelsea will face Espérance Tunis without their striker, who could be suspended for more than one match if FIFA reviews the incident.
