Official: Dani Carvajal joins Getafe
Dani Carvajal has found his next destination. After spending 13 years at Real Madrid, the 34-year-old Spanish defender has officially joined Getafe, where he has signed a one-year contract.
A new challenge for Carvajal
Getafe confirmed the signing of the former Spanish international on Tuesday. The deal was completed without a transfer fee, as Carvajal left Real Madrid at the end of his contract. However, the move was subject to some uncertainty due to LaLiga's financial fair-play rules. The club was ultimately able to complete the signing of the full-back, who brings experience to the squad.
During his long career in Madrid, Carvajal won 29 trophies, including six Champions League titles. He was also crowned European champion with Spain in 2024. However, his time at Real Madrid was marked by a serious cruciate ligament injury in October 2024. The injury kept him out for a long period and continued to affect his following season.
Getting back to the pace of competition
Now announced as fit to return to competition, Carvajal will have to gradually rediscover his form after this lengthy absence. His experience could prove valuable to Getafe, although his return to his best level will depend in particular on his ability to play a run of matches.
At 34, the defender is therefore beginning a new chapter in his career, with the aim of reclaiming an important role on the Spanish football scene. For Getafe, Carvajal's arrival represents an opportunity to strengthen the squad with an experienced player accustomed to major occasions. The main challenge will now be to help him gradually regain his rhythm after his physical difficulties.
