Official: Guéla Doué leaves Strasbourg and signs for Bayer Leverkusen

Guéla Doué is moving to a new league. The Ivory Coast international defender is leaving Strasbourg to join Bayer Leverkusen, the two clubs announced on Tuesday, just hours before the summer transfer window closed.

The 23-year-old right-back has signed a four-year contract with the German side, running until 2031. The transfer fee is around €37.5 million, including bonuses. This is one of the biggest sales in Racing’s history. The record remains held by the departure of winger Diego Moreira to AC Milan in mid-August, for over €50 million.

Two successful seasons at Strasbourg

Strasbourg signed Guéla Doué in 2024 from Rennes for around 6 million euros. Having come through the ranks at the Breton club, he made his Ligue 1 debut there in February 2023. In just two seasons in Alsace, Désiré Doué’s elder brother established himself as a first-team regular. He made 69 appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing 9 assists. An Ivory Coast international since 2024, Guéla Doué has earned 24 caps and scored 3 goals for the Elephants.

A first experience abroad

With this transfer, Guéla Doué is leaving France for the first time in his career. He is set to discover the Bundesliga whilst playing for Bayer Leverkusen. The German club is banking on his skills as an attacking full-back to strengthen their right flank. The Ivorian defender arrives with experience from Ligue 1 and international matches.
