Orlando Pirates reject huge bid for Relebohile Mofokeng
Orlando Pirates have reportedly declined an offer of approximately R35 million from Minnesota United of Major League Soccer for their promising winger, Relebohile Mofokeng.
According to former player Innocent Chikoya, the decision may be driven by the club’s strong desire to clinch the Betway Premiership title this season. He emphasized that the 20-year-old is currently an indispensable part of the squad, having played a crucial role in the team's recent success—helping secure five trophies over the past three seasons, including three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup victories.
Chikoya believes Mofokeng could be the decisive factor in Pirates’ pursuit of the league championship. Additionally, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup taking place in the United States, there is a shared hope that the player’s exposure and development will continue to rise on both personal and professional levels.
While acknowledging that R35 million is a significant amount, Chikoya suggested the club’s priority lies not in immediate financial gain, but in nurturing Mofokeng’s growth and maximizing his potential impact on the field. He expressed confidence that the club would not prioritize profit over the player’s career progression.
