RS Berkane: CAF enforces CAS decision (Official)
Three weeks after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision on the controversial RS Berkane jersey, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has clarified its stance to its member federations, including the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
Indeed, this Saturday, March 22, CAF issued a circular reminding the prohibition of any political elements on sports equipment. Here's a glimpse:
This measure follows the CAS decision at the end of last February, which ruled that the RS Berkane jerseys for the 2023/24 Confederation Cup, featuring a territorial map deemed political, violated CAF regulations. Consequently, the initial approval of these jerseys was revoked.
A decision applied “with immediate effect”
In accordance with “article 48 of the CAF statutes,” this decision is thus applied “with immediate effect.”
The body specified that “equipment featuring political messages, maps, or slogans will be banned during its competitions. In case of non-compliance, it reserves the right to demand modifications or to prohibit the jerseys in question.”
CAF thus reaffirms its “commitment to political neutrality in its sporting events, ensuring competitions free from any political stance.”
