Serhou Guirassy, main threat for Mamelodi Sundowns?

As Mamelodi Sundowns prepare to take on Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup this Saturday, June 21, Serhou Guirassy emerges as the number one threat for the South Africans.

After netting 34 goals at club level last season, Serhou Guirassy finished among the top four scorers in Europe across all competitions. At 29, the Guinean striker is in the form of his life, and his ability to finish from any position makes him a true goal machine.

But Serhou Guirassy is not just a finisher. He is fully involved in the build-up play. His physical presence puts constant pressure on opposing defences. He holds up the ball to help his team push forward and links up intelligently with his attacking midfielders. His aerial game is formidable, and his clinical finishing leaves defenders with very little margin for error.

The Sundowns defenders will therefore need to deliver a flawless defensive performance if they hope to contain the Guinean sharpshooter. It’s a tough challenge, but absolutely crucial if they want to keep their hopes alive. Because if Sundowns want to keep dreaming in this tournament, their first priority will be to neutralise Dortmund’s number 9 this Saturday.
