Spain win the U15 World Cup
Three months after the senior team’s triumph in the USA, Spain are once again on top of the world. The U15 team won the World Cup in this age category on Friday.
Organised in a unique eight-a-side format, the tournament brought together 191 nations for its inaugural edition. France’s Bleuets were eliminated by Uganda after a penalty shoot-out (1-1, 4-2 on penalties), bringing their campaign to an end.
The French team had nevertheless shown some promising things. After finishing the first round with three wins, one draw and one defeat, the young Tricolores were placed in Tier C of the final phase. They made a good start to this second part of the competition with two positive results against Trinidad and Tobago (4-2) and Honduras (2-2, 4-3 on penalties), before having a more difficult Thursday. Beaten by Tunisia (5-3), they then bounced back against Indonesia (5-1), but failed to confirm that result against Uganda.
Spain are world champions once again
Spain, meanwhile, managed to go all the way in this inaugural edition. La Roja defeated Czechia (3-0) in the final to win the first-ever U15 World Cup in history.
