Guti questioned the coincidence between the 70th-anniversary ceremony being held in London and a player from the British capital winning the award.

Guti questions the circumstances of Harry Kane's Ballon d'Or triumph

During his appearance on the programme “El Chiringuito”, Guti commented: “What a coincidence! On the occasion of the trophy's 70th anniversary, they move the ceremony to London, and then a player from London wins it. Isn't that a strange coincidence?”

The former star, who wore the Real Madrid jersey during his career, added that what had happened gave him the impression that it had been premeditated, stating: “Does everything seem arranged? Absolutely! That's what I have thought about this trophy for a long time.”

Guti's remarks were not limited to the venue where the ceremony was held, as he also referred to Harry Kane's reaction when his victory was announced.

He explained: “Did you see Harry Kane's face when they announced his name? He would never have imagined in his entire life that he was going to win! I think he expected to see Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé ahead of him.”

Guti concluded his remarks by questioning the significance of the English player's reaction: “You don't have that look on your face when you win the Ballon d'Or if you believe you deserve it.”
