Ballon d'Or 2026: Lamine Yamal's uncle takes aim at Harry Kane

Harry Kane was magnificently named the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner on Monday evening. The England international finished ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal, who are both understandably very disappointed.

Those in the young Barcelona player's camp are already unhappy. Speaking to Cadena SER, Lamine Yamal's uncle Abdul openly criticised Harry Kane.

“I am very sad, I feel bad. My nephew is very good, he is the best player in the world, everyone knows that. If you love football, you go to the stadium to watch Lamine Yamal, not Harry Kane. Harry Kane is a goalscorer, Lamine Yamal is the best. He has no luck. Next year. People say that he is young, that he will win more. But Harry Kane has only three days left in his career, so they are giving him the Ballon d’Or. Lamine has won everything, La Liga, the World Cup, the Super Cup, he had an incredible season. He scores goals that no one else scores, provides assists, everything you could want. He will win more than one Ballon d’Or. He will win five!” the player's uncle declared.

Laporta has a message for Yamal

On the sidelines of the 70th ceremony, Blaugrana president Joan Laporta sent a message to the Spain international. “I am convinced that he will eventually win the Ballon d’Or. I don't know when, but he has proven himself worthy of winning it. We accept this result in a sporting manner, as we do everything that happens in the world of sport, and this should serve as motivation for him. I am sure that will be the case. At team level, this will certainly have no impact, because all his teammates will help him quickly overcome this bad news. Together, we will help him become even more motivated to win this trophy next year,” he declared.
