Inter and Milan are watching.. Cagliari responds with a long term contract for its Senegalese talent until 2032

Cagliari have officially extended Senegalese striker Paul Mendy's contract until 30 June 2032, securing the 19 year old's long term future amid reported interest from Inter Milan and AC Milan.

The Italian club announced the agreement on Thursday 29 October rewarding the forward's rapid development and growing importance under head coach Fabio Pisacane.

According to Cagliari's official statement, the new deal extends his previous contract, signed in March 2026, by an additional year.

Why did Cagliari extend Paul Mendy's contract?

Mendy has emerged as one of Cagliari's most promising young players following his impressive transition from youth football to the first team.

Born on 13 January 2007 in Rufisque, Senegal, the striker joined the Italian club from ASC Bambey in February 2025.

He initially played for the U18 side, scoring 3 goals in eight appearances, before progressing to the U20 team.

His performances eventually earned him a senior debut against Napoli on 20 March 2026.

Just over a month later, Mendy made an immediate impact on his first Serie A start, scoring twice within eight minutes against Atalanta on April 27 to help Cagliari secure a dramatic 3-2 victory.

The Senegalese forward has maintained his progress during the 2026 /27 campaign.

He has appeared in all nine of Cagliari's opening league matches, scoring against Atalanta in a 2-1 away victory and providing an assist for Daniel Maldini against Juventus.

Mendy also found the net against Hellas Verona in the Coppa Italia.

His performances have established him as an important attacking option in Serie A, strengthening Cagliari's confidence in his long term potential.

Inter Milan & AC Milan monitoring the Senegalese talent

Mendy's development has reportedly attracted attention from both Milan clubs.

As Foot Africa reported in September, Inter & AC Milan have been monitoring the Senegalese striker's progress.

Citing Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the report suggested that Inter were particularly interested, with sporting director Dario Baccin reportedly having watched the player on several occasions.

AC Milan were also said to be following his development, although Inter appeared to be more advanced in their interest.

More recently, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Cagliari's latest renewal included an adjustment to Mendy's salary, reflecting his increasingly important role in the first team.

However, neither Inter nor AC Milan have publicly confirmed submitting an official transfer offer.

The interest therefore remains at the monitoring stage rather than an established negotiation.

What does the new contract mean for Mendy's future?

Extending Mendy's contract until 2032 strengthens Cagliari's negotiating position should another club pursue the Senegalese forward.

The agreement does not necessarily rule out a future transfer but it gives the Sardinian club greater control over his immediate future.

For Mendy, remaining at Cagliari offers an opportunity to continue gaining regular first team experience under Pisacane.

The club considers his physical strength, athleticism, technical ability and movement behind defensive lines important qualities for his development as a modern centre-forward.

His immediate objective will be to build on his promising start to the season and establish himself as a consistent goalscorer.

Cagliari are scheduled to face Lazio on Sunday 1 November providing Mendy with another opportunity to strengthen his position in the starting lineup.
