Despite suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Juventus, Wydad Casablanca found a small consolation by netting their first-ever goal in this Club World Cup. That goal came courtesy of Thembinkosi Lorch.

The South African attacking midfielder, who started against the Bianconeri, briefly reignited hope for the Moroccan side by reducing the deficit to 2-1. But the Italians soon shifted gears, pulling away until the final whistle.

Speaking candidly in the mixed zone, Lorch said:

We learned a lot from this match. Juventus are a well-organized, very compact team. It made our job tough.

While he relishes scoring against a European giant, the South African keeps his focus on what matters most:

Of course, it’s a personal pride. But the main thing is the team. The result is disappointing, and I think we owe our supporters an apology.

At 31, the Bloemfontein native is already looking ahead:

This defeat shows us what we need to fix to progress. We’ll learn from it and come back stronger.
