Tottenham's start to the season is far from meeting expectations. After four rounds of the Premier League, the London club sit 17th and have a particularly worrying record: no goals scored and five conceded.

Marmoush: “We must support one another”

The situation became even more complicated this week with elimination from the League Cup, following a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool. Despite these results, Omar Marmoush prefers to focus on the encouraging signs he has seen in their play. Having arrived this summer from Manchester City on loan with an obligation to buy, the 27-year-old Egyptian striker wants to prevent the poor results from further weakening the group.

Everyone can see that we create chances very often. We have a lot of quality on the pitch and on the bench. Once the small details are sorted out, it will be really good.

The Egypt international also stressed the importance of confidence. In his view, the first signs of success can quickly trigger a positive effect throughout the team: « we need to keep building our confidence so that we can move on to the next matches and succeed. »

A project that still needs to find its balance

Tottenham had nevertheless shown new ambitions during the off-season. The club signed several players, including Marmoush, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, while Roberto De Zerbi took charge of the team in the spring. After finishing 17th in the Premier League in each of the past two seasons, expectations were therefore particularly high around this new team.

The upcoming meeting with Aston Villa on Saturday will represent another opportunity to truly get the season underway. A first victory would above all allow Spurs to turn the chances they have created into a concrete sign of recovery.
