Mohammed Kudus delivered his first assist of the season for Tottenham on Saturday against Aston Villa (2-3). Introduced after half-time, the Ghana international set up Conor Gallagher for Spurs’ first goal in the Premier League this season in the 86th minute.

Kudus is gradually continuing his return after a lengthy absence. After suffering a significant quadriceps injury against Sunderland on 4 January 2026, he experienced a setback in his recovery in April. Tottenham then confirmed that the player had been forced to interrupt his rehabilitation and undergo further examinations.

The Ghanaian eventually returned to competitive action at the end of August. He came on against Newcastle before making further substitute appearances against Nottingham Forest and Everton. On 15 September, he also started in the League Cup against Liverpool, making his first start since 4 January.

Against Aston Villa, Kudus therefore played his fourth Premier League match since returning and his fifth match in all competitions. He has still not started a league match since his comeback, but his appearance against Villa allowed him to make an immediate impact.

In the 60th minute, Kudus thought he had scored his first goal of the season. His effort was ultimately ruled out after a VAR review because of an offside in the build-up. Twenty-six minutes later, he was involved in a goal that this time stood. His cutback allowed Conor Gallagher to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

This assist is Kudus’ first in the Premier League during the 2026-2027 season. It takes his total of assists for Tottenham in the league to six, following the five he recorded in his first season at the club. In 2025-2026, he provided five assists in 19 Premier League appearances.

Kudus’ return is therefore continuing with his first decisive contribution since his comeback. Tottenham, for their part, suffered their fifth league defeat of the season against Aston Villa.
